Clyde Fliers wrestling team bounced out of state duals by Bellevue Redmen

The Clyde wrestling team bowed out of the OHSAA State Team Tournament rival Bellevue last week.

Wednesday night, the Fliers traveled to Bellevue for the opening round of the state duals to battle the Redmen in the opening round. Bellevue won the match, 43-32.

The Fliers won six of the matches in the dual, with Jarod Norman (106), Landon Kiser, (120) and Eric Middleton (160) each winning by pin fall. The Fliers’ state title contender, Garit Witt (220), won his match by tech fall.

Alec Montgomery (152) won his match by an 8-2 decision, and Tyler Duskin (113) won by forfeit.

On Saturday, the Fliers took part in the Joe Szymczak Duals at Elmwood High School and finished the day with a 3-2 record.

In the opening round, the Fliers knocked off West Carrollton, 54-28. Clyde won eight matches by forfeit. Ryan Kelley picked up the Fliers’ only win in a contested match with a pin fall.

In the second round, Rossford defeated Clyde, 51-30. Norman, Levi Graham and Witt all won by fall. Middleton and Kelley each one by forfeit.

In the third round, Clyde lost to Wauseon, 57-18. The Fliers only wins in the match were by forfeit: Lucas McKee (120), Kelley (195) and Witt.

The Fliers won their fourth round match, 38-31, over Bowling Green. Norman, Derek Dyer (145), Jon Jett, Graham, Kelley, Witt and Kris Mange all won their matches for Clyde.

In the final round of the day, the Fliers thumped St. Mary’s Memorial, 52-18. Norman, McKee, Jett, Graham, Dyer, Montgomery, Kelley, Witt, Duskin and Middleton all won matches.

The Fliers will next travel to Huron this weekend for the SBC Tournament at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
