Former Clyde girls basketball coach John Cahill will be honored for two different coaching milestones at the 2016 girls basketball state tournament on March 12th by the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches’ Association.
Cahill will first receive the prestigious Bob Arnzen Award. This award is presented annually to coaches who have served 20 consecutive years in the same school district. Cahill coached for 23 seasons for the Clyde Lady Fliers and is currently still coaching two youth teams for Clyde.
Cahill’s career began as the seventh grade girls’ coach in 1992. He was the JV coach for four years and became head coach in 1997.
He was head coach 18 seasons and stepped down last spring.
Cahill will also be honored for winning his 300th game at the varsity level. His career varsity record was 315-103. His teams won six SBC titles, 14 Sectional titles, and advanced the state Final Four in 2011 and 2013. Cahill will receive a clock from the OHSBCA.
Cahill’s list of accomplishments and honors are long.

“It is quite an honor to receive both of these awards and I accept them honoring the players and coaches I worked with the past 23 years,” Cahill said. “When I came to Clyde in 1992, I worked with great coaches in different sports and learned a lot. My goal was to make Clyde a program that had a family feel while being significant state wide. I feel like we did that.”
