Madison Young, daughter of AJ and Kelly Young, signed her National Letter of Intent last week to play softball at Black Hills State University in Spearfish, S.D.
Young, a Clyde High School senior, received an athletic scholarship for softball at BHSU. She plans on majoring in education beginning in the fall of 2016.
Young plays outfield and first base on the Fliers’ varsity team. She also plays outfield for her tournament team — Ohio Hawks 18U Gold-Lenos, based out of Middletown Ohio. Young, has a .583 batting average and .950 fielding percentage for the Ohio Hawks team.
“Athleticism oozes from this kid and she has so much to give to the sport that has yet to be taped,” BHSU coach Lane Leedy said. “What excites me about Madison is that she is a spark plug, when she is playing she ignites her teammates and sets a tone whether it’s making a diving catch or getting a base hit that starts the rally.”
