FREMONT — The Fliers opened up the 2015 basketball season when they traveled to Fremont to take on Ross. Clyde lost the game, 59-46.
Clyde coach Lou Garcia knows there’s room for improvement for his team, which had only a little over a week’s worth of practice due to the football team making it to the second round of the playoffs. Many players on the Fliers’ basketball team also played football.
Still, Garcia felt his team played well overall.
“Thought my boys played very well,” Garcia said. “For only having a minimum amount of time together due to the success of the football team, they played well. The guys gave tremendous effort in their first game. We can improve on the basketball aspect.”
Things started out well for the Fliers, as they opened up an early 4-0 lead, but the lead didn’t last long. Ross bounced back quickly to take the lead, which it never relinquished.
Zach Rieman led the Fliers on the night with 19 points. Lucas Nicely added nine points and three steals.
Connor Long finished the game with seven points along with three steals. Tanner Davenport and Seth Hohman each finished with four points. Jake Jenne had three points.
Garcia knows his team needs to improved each and every day to be able to compete this season with the stiff competition in the Sandusky Bay Conference.
“We need to compete every day to the best of our abilities and put us in a position to be competitive in every game from here on out,” he said. “Due to only having 13 practices so far we have to improve on little things to be able to come out on top.”
The next week’s games are as follows:
Wednesday, Dec. 9 vs. Tiffin.
Saturday, Dec. 12 at Perkins.
Tuesday, Dec. 15 vs. Vermilion.
All games are scheduled at 4:30 p.m. with the varsity game immediately following the freshmen and JV games.
