CLYDE — The Clyde girls basketball team nearly scored twice as many points as their opponent last Friday night, when the Fliers routed Edison, 67-34.
With the win, Clyde improved to 5-2 on the season overall and 2-1 in the Sandusky Bay Conference.
“It was a great team effort by the girls,” Clyde coach Dave Lozier said. “We had 13 girls score in the game. That’s a good effort and a great win.”
The Fliers made 25 field goals in the game, including eight 3-pointers. Junior guard Morgan Bannister led all scorers with 12 points after burying four 3s in the game.
Fellow junior Lillian Royster scored nine points and pulled down 10 rebounds for the Fliers.
The team also went 9-for-13 from the free throw line, with six of sophomore guard Heidi Marshall’s eight points coming from the line. Marshall finished shooting a perfect 6-of-6 on free throws.
Senior Brandyce Wott also finished with eight points, and junior Bree Dowling added seven points of her own.
The Clyde defense held the Chargers to just 11 field goals in the game, with six of them being 3s. Kelsey Schuster led Edison with 10 points.
With the loss, the Chargers dropped to 0-5 on the season and 0-3 in the SBC.
The Fliers will next host Vermilion on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at the Clyde High School gym.
