The Fliers wrestling team traveled to Highland over the weekend to take part in the Kilted Classic.
Clyde finished in fifth place as a team out of 16 teams.
Despite missing a number of wrestlers out of their starting lineup, the Fliers finished just behind Marysville, Westerville North, Medina and Cambridge.
“We took a young squad down there and they really fought hard in all their matches,” Clyde coach Bob Blackburn said. “We had six young men with no prior varsity experience and four empty weight classes, so I think we did a great job. It was a great day of learning while gaining experience at this level and overall I am pleased at where we’re at being this was our first tournament.”
Clyde 160-pounder Alec Montgomery finished second in his weight class by winning his first four matches before finally falling in the finals.
Jared Norman (106), Landon Kiser (120) and Grant Coleman (126) all finished fourth at the tournament. Dylan Duskin (145) finished fifth, after winning four of his five matches on the day.
The next tournament the Fliers have on their schedule is one of the biggest in Northeast Ohio, when they travel to Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School to take part in the Brecksville Holiday Tournament, the longest running holiday tournament in the country.
The 55th Annual Brecksville Holiday Tournament will take place Dec. 29 and 30 with the sessions beginning at 10 a.m. both days.
