Clyde Fliers’ Garit Witt finishes second at Brecksville Holiday Tournament

Last Tuesday and Wednesday the Fliers traveled to Brecksville to attend the 55th annual Brecksville Holiday Tournament, the longest running holiday tournament in the nation.

Garit Witt ended the two day tournament placing runner up honors at the 220lb weight class. Witt won district last season and finished third at state is currently ranked number one in his weight class in Division II by wrestling guru Josh Lowe.

Witt lost to Oregon Clay’s Matt Stencel, defending state champion in Division I who also won the Walsh Ironman the week before.

The tournament had a total of 47 teams that participated. Other stats for the tournament were 106 Jared Norman 1-2, 113 Landon Kiser 1-2, 120 Brenden Dean 0-2, 126 Grant Coleman 2-2, 132 Derek Dyer 0-2, 138 Dylan Duskin 1-2, 152 Alec Montgomery 0-2, 160 Eric Middleton 2-2, 170 Tanner Durst 1-2, 195 Ryan Kelley 1-2 and HWT Kris Mange 1-2.

As a team, the Fliers finished 25th with 60 points in the tournament.

The Fliers will be hosting the SBC Tri Meet on Wednesday January 6 which will also be senior night. Action slated to start at 5:30 p.m.
