Not only were the players recognized for their hard work, but the first-year coach Sahen Fultz also was recognized and nominated for coach of the year and received 6 out of 16 votes. He was humbled by the nomination, especially in his first year in this position.
“Just to be nominated was great,” Fultz said. “I was very humbled by this.”
Fultz was proud of the team for not only their accomplishments on the field, but academically as well, with the extra bonus of all the returning players the team will have next year.
“Excellent group I have. The best part of this is Zach Taylor is the only senior I’m losing here, which is very reassuring heading into next season,” Fultz said. “We are still young and we will be a force not to be taken lightly next year. Mark my words, this group can and will be a top 2 team in the SBC next season. They have the potential.
“All these boys here are good hardworking kids and intelligent too; we have a team full of academic superstars and I’m more proud of that than any accomplishment they can receive on the field. That’s ultimately what matters here. This is the first team in the last few years to be recognized by the state as an all-academic team, which requires a minimum team average GPA of 3.0. This team has an average of 3.237.”
