CLYDE — The Fliers girls basketball team faced a tough test Monday night when they hosted the Norwalk Truckers and their 7-1 record at Clyde High School.

Clyde passed the test with flying colors though, defeated the Truckers by 14 points, 65-51.

The Fliers played a scrappy and tough game, just as Coach Dave Lozier asked them to do.

“Norwalk is a good team,” he said, “so I told them the girls they had to play scrappy and tough and that’s just what they did.”

The win improved Clyde’s record to to 6-2 on the season.

Sophomore guard Heidi Marshall led the way for the Fliers with a team-high 23 points. Marshall knocked down two 3-pointers in addition to making 5 field goals and going 7-of-8 from the free-throw line.

Marshall’s big game opened things up for the rest of the team, as well.

“Marshall charging in for the shots,” Lozier said, “left the outside undefended which helped in the win. This was a big win.”

Marshall didn’t do it alone though, as junior Morgan Bannister added 16 points, in large part by knocking down three 3s.

Juniors Lillian Royster and Addie Martin helped the Fliers cause, chipping in 10 and eight points, respectively.

Norwalk’s Jiselle Thomas had a big game in the losing effort, scoring a game-high 27 points. Thomas was the only player for the Truckers to reach double digits in scoring, though.

The Fliers will next travel to Port Clinton on Wednesday. Tip off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

The Fliers will then be home on Saturday when they’ll host Bellevue. Tip off for the JV game is scheduled for 3 p.m., with the varsity game starting at 6 p.m.
