CLYDE — The Clyde girls basketball program split a pair of games last week, as the team continues to develop under first-year coach Dave Lozier.

On Wednesday night, the Fliers routed conference rival Port Clinton, 63-34.

The Redskins had no answer for Clyde’s balanced offensive attack that saw four Fliers reach double figures in scoring on the night.

Bree Dowling led the team in scoring with 14 point on the night with five field goals, a 3-pointer and going 1-for-1 from the free-throw line. Morgan Bannister added 13.

Heidi Marshall chipped in 11, and Addie Martin finished with 10 to lead the Fliers to the win.

“It was a good game by both teams,” Lozier said. “I think we were on a 19-1 run in the third quarter. Bree Dowling, Addie Martin and Morgan Bannister were solid.

“It’s a good win before the break.”

On Saturday night, the Fliers hosted Bellevue in what turned out to be a classic even with the home team falling, 43-42.

Bannister led all scorers on the night, dropping a game-high 19 points, thanks in large part to go 10-of-12 from the free-throw line.

Dowling added seven points, while Marshall chipped in five.

Despite the loss, Lozier believes his team played hard and will learn from its mistakes.

The game was a Classic. Both teams played very hard,” he said. “We had chances to win, just didn’t work out. We will get better from this; two good teams playing hard.”

The Fliers are now 7-3 overall on the season and 3-1 in the Sandusky Bay Conference.
