This season has been tough for the Fliers, but the meet up with Monroeville was a game changer for Clyde’s sophomores Conner Long and Seth Hohman, who led the Fliers to a much needed win over the Eagles, 57-46.
Currently the Fliers are 2-8.
Long was top shooter of the night, leading the Fliers with five field goals and five free throws totaling 15 points for the night. Long attributed his success on the Fliers coming out and playing as a team.
“It felt great I could go out there,” Long said, “and help my team get a win that night. I felt like we finally played as a team and it was a much needed victory.
Hohman came in next getting four field goals, two three pointers and four free throws adding a total of 14 points in the game. This gives Hohman a total of seven three pointers for the season and agrees with Long that after the rough start to the season they are finally coming together as a team.
“We really needed this win after we had a rough start to the beginning of the season,” Hohman said. “After this game I feel that we are finally starting to play better as a team.”
In the first quarter the Fliers were down at the start but kept trailing the Eagles close behind. At the end of the first quarter the score was Clyde 10, Monroeville 14. At the half the Fliers still were trailing by four with the Eagles scoring a field goal at the buzzer making the score at the end of the half Clyde 21, Monroeville 25.
In the first part of the second half, the Eagles were right on point and had the Fliers still trailing up until 2:34 left in the third where Hohman shot a successful 3-pointer, finding the score tied at 31. In the fourth quarter the Fliers finally began to take off with the lead and ended the game with a spread of 11. Final score of the game was Clyde 57, Monroeville 46.

With upcoming games with Huron, SMCC and Western Reserve, Long feels that this win boosted their confidence which was needed for their continued success.
“I definitely feel that this win really boosted our confidence,” he said, “especially with the rough start at the beginning of the season.”
The Fliers will host Huron on Friday January 8, SMCC on Saturday January 9 and Western Reserve on Jan. 12. Each game is set for 4:30 with freshman and JV to start and varsity to follow.
